Was set up in 2008. It was shown in London, Sheffield and was later shown in America. Vivienne is now 72.
Purpose
The main reason of the event was to raise awareness of Vivienne Westwood and her work. But also this would gain a lot of press coverage. This was also to celebrate a prestigious national event in sheffield. As you can imagine it is quite a big thing to have sheffield hosting an event when it would only be held there, London and America.
Funding
The event was funded by sheffield city council, the event would have huge tourist value. The event earned its money by charging £6 for the exhibition and also sold merchandise. It had 1 Million revenue for Sheffield.
Target Audience
The events audience was for...
- VIP's
- Funders/sponsors
- Local dignitaries & officials (for example the Mayor)
- Journalists and Bloggers
- People who will dress up (influenced off Vivienne etc)
The guests list was very strict, as they would not want any people causing trouble or people bothering the celebrities etc. They also wanted people form key arts and creative scenes.
Design & Style
The invitation included a picture of Vivienne.
A red carpet was placed down and photographers hired (Dan & Jackie). Because it was a big event including various speeches and celebrities so it was a strict event running order.
There was a chronological order to the event. Not only is this easier to spot a progression in the work, but it much easier to follow and arrange.
Legal & Ethical
The venue has a alcohol license, so bars were set up (3). There was security on all doors and fire exits. There were 3 on each bar, 4 on security and 5 in the exhibition. All creative aspects of the event had to be approved by Vivienne and her team, so ralph had to submit a sample of the tracks he was going to play, to make sure she and here team were happy with the tracks.
There were attempts to sell invitation on Ebay, so they had to find out who they are and cancel there invitation.
Location & Suitability
The event was held at both the Winter Gardens and the Millennium galleries, the event was all on one floor and it has ramps and lifts to help the disabled access the event. VIP guests were chaperoned so they had a green room. Staging, DJ equipment, and the PA system were all organised by an external company.
Health & Safety
There were no drinks allowed in the gallery space and all glasses collected by staff, therefore minimising damage to the exhibition. All cables were also taken down and risk assessments run. The legal capacity for the event was 1000 guests with security at all doors and fire exits. Ropes and glass cages guarded the exhibition to keep it safe.
